Summary
Mean blood pressure, cardiac index, cardiac output, stroke index, left ventricular work and total peripheral resistance were determined during neurosurgical operations under Ēthrane anesthesia. The mean arterial concentration of Ēthrane during the operation was 11 mg/100 ml. Compared with the postoperative reading, arterial mean pressure fell 17 %, the cardiac index 24 % and the stroke index 22 % during the operation. but pulse and total peripheral resistance did not vary significantly. Left ventricular work increased by 46 % at the end of the operation.
