Abstract

In 1785, the Frenchman A. Broussonet described the pseudobranch of the teleost for the first time. Since then, the function of this organ has been questioned1. The discovery of a group of receptors at this site casts new light on the problem and has led the author to propose a function based on new morphological and physiological data.
