Zusammenfassung

Das Wort „praecancerös“taucht zuerst bei Dubreuilh (1896) auf, der damit Veränderungen der Haut bezeichnete, die mit einer gewissen Regelmäßigkeit in Krebs übergehen; tatsächlich lassen sich an der Haut solche Vorgänge besonders leicht verfolgen, wie z.B. beim Morbus Bowen, der zum Schulbeispiel der Praecancerosen geworden ist. Später (1911) hat dann Orth den Begriff auf Veränderungen der inneren Organe angewendet, in erster Linie auf das Ulcus pepticum. Hier war aber bereits eine dauernde Beobachtung der Entwicklung zum Krebs hin nicht möglich; Orth mußte sich ebenso wie spätere Untersucher auf die einmalige Feststellung gewisser histologischer Besonderheiten oder auf klinisch-statistische Erhebungen stützen. Gerade diese Ausdehnung des Begriffes der Praecancerose auf innere Organe und ihre Veränderungen hat aber auch Zweifel an seiner wissenschaftlichen Brauchbarkeit geweckt, da ihm eine für jede erfolgreiche Begriffsbildung wesentliche scharfe Abgrenzung fehlte.
