Abstract
The introduction of a new drug in the treatment of a disease or a group of disorders often rises a widespread optimism. Unfortunately, with increasing experience, the optimism very often turns to deep scepticism, especially, when serious side effects occur. The application of corticosteroids in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is a typical example of the fact just mentioned.
