Dynamic Control of Multi-Stand Aluminum Cold Rolling Mills

Abstract

Recent improvements in rolling mill regulation systems have been motivated by the increasingly stringent quality requirements for cold-rolled sheet metal and by the desire of producers to increase their manufacturing efficiency. The principal objective of a rolling mill regulation system is to produce material of uniform thickness (“gauge control”), that is, to minimize deviations of the material thickness from the target thickness. Closely associated with this primary objective, however, are several secondary requirements related to both gauge control and to the operability of the rolling mill.
