Control of Ventilation and Oxygenation in Acute Pulmonary Insufficiency

  • Conference paper
Anaesthesie Atmung — Kreislauf

Abstract

Our views are based in part on our groups experiences which include participation in the care of about 2000 intensive care unit (ICU) patients per year in 3 multidisciplinary general ICUs plus the administration of 45 000 anesthesias per year. In the adult ICU of Presbyterian-University Hospital the proportion of patients requiring prolonged artificial ventilation has increased from about 20% 3 years ago to about 70% in 1971. The techniques we are using are demonstrated in films.
