Zusammenfassung
Fragen der Ernährung einer rasch wachsenden Weltbevölkerung aus ökonomischer Sicht im Rahmen eines Referats zu behandeln, zwingt sowohl zu einer begrenzten Auswahl der zu behandelnden Probleme als auch zu ihrer knappen Darstellung. Die nachhaltige Steigerung der Agrarproduktion in einem immer größeren Bereich der Welt und damit die Möglichkeit, eine rasch gewachsene Bevölkerung zu ernähren, ist eine der größten Leistungen des an Fortschritten in den Naturwissenschaften und der Technik wahrlich nicht armen letzten Jahrhunderts. Neue, nicht an die agrarischen Ressourcen gebundene Nahrungsquellen zeichnen sich ab. Trotzdem entspricht die Ernährung der Menschen in vielen Teilen der Welt nur unzureichend bestimmten physiologischen Normen. Krasse Unterschiede bestehen sowohl zwischen entwickelten und weniger entwickelten Ländern, als auch in großem Maße zwischen verschiedenen Bevölkerungsgruppen innerhalb der Länder.
