Zusammenfassung

Es wird immer deutlicher, daß die großen Klimaschwankungen des Eiszeitalters früher begonnen haben, als bisher angenommen worden ist. Über die hiermit zusammenhängenden Probleme der Biologie und der Quartärgeologie berichteten TUREKIAN sowie FLINT umfassend; PÉWÉ konzentrierte sich auf die ökologischen Probleme des Periglazialraumes. Nach LINDROTH muß hinsichtlich der historischen Florengeographie zwischen Großrefugien in den Randgebieten der Eisdecke einerseits und den Nunatakkern und Küstenrefugien andererseits unterschieden werden, wobei jedoch in jedem Einzelfall zu klären ist, wie weit nicht gerade die Küstenrefugien und diejenigen auf Nunatakkern durch eine interstadiale oder spätglaziale Einwanderung vorgetäuscht werden. Mit einem der interessantesten Refugien- und gleichzeitig Wanderungsgebiete, mit Beringien, beschäftigte sich HOPKINS.
