Abstract

This report deals with some phenomena accompanying high-speed collisions of solids in the most exemplary case of metals. Explosives are mostly used in these processes to obtain high-speed collisions. Some papers are known dealing with shock compressibility of metals in which normal collisions of surfaces were used with velocities up to 15 km/sec. These experiments resulted in the creation of a gas-dynamic model of the calculation of phenomena taking place in metals up to very high pressures in the order of several megabars. This approach proved to be very successful with regard to the understanding of the process taking place in metals under shock loading. In several cases the calculations were of high practical interest.
