Abstract
Vegetable crops are widely grown under irrigation in arid and semiarid regions. Since these regions have a relatively mild winter climate, a great part of the vegetable production is aimed at export of out-of-season vegetables to cooler countries. In addition, several vegetables are grown on large areas for industrial processing, either as canned or frozen products.
