Abstract

The atmosphere of a planet can be divided into a number of regions. It is quite natural that the terminology which has evolved for the terrestrial atmosphere should also be applied to other planetary atmospheres.* The terminology which is now generally accepted is based on the vertical distribution of temperature and composition, i. e., the parameters necessary for describing an atmosphere for which the hydrostatic condition can be used.
