Abstract
The environmental conditions that permit a population to survive permanently, and with which this population interacts, today are usually designated as its “ecological niche.” Originally, the term “niche” did not have the same meaning for all ecologists but this need not be considered here. We above define and use it in the sense of Hutchinson (1958).
