Zusammenfassung
Kaum ein anderes Problem hat die Grenzen der klassischen naturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen so deutlich gesprengt wie das Studium der pflanzlichen Photosynthese. Die Entwicklung immer leistungsfähigerer Methoden, extrem schnelle Reaktionen zu verfolgen, ließ die Erforschung insbesondere der primären Photoprozesse fast zu einer Domäne der Physiker und Physikochemiker werden. Die Messung der Photosynthese am natürlichen Standort, letztes Reservat biologischer Studien, trat immer mehr in den Hintergrund. Selbst die biochemische Aufklärung des lichtbedingten Kohlenstoff-Einbaus — vor Jahren noch bewundertes Kernstück der Forschung — verlor zunehmend an Interesse. So wird es für den Biologen immer schwieriger, dem raschen Fortschritt an für ihn schlecht zu erkennenden Fronten zu folgen und sich ein wenigstens annähernd zutreffendes Bild vom Stand der Arbeiten zu machen.
