Abstract
When honeybees are trained to discriminate between colours, the choice frequency between training and test stimulus can be measured. This measurable relation between stimuli and choice frequency can be split into two parts assuming an intermediate variable, the “perceived stimulus difference”. If the perceived stimulus difference is defined as a metric function, the relationship between “perceived stimulus difference” and choice frequency can be derived from experimental measurements by means of a mathematical evaluation. The characteristic curve of this relationship is sigmoidal.
