Abstract
A groupoid is an algebra of type 〈2〉. As a rule, the basic operation in a groupoid is called multiplication and the groupoid is said to be multiplicative. The product of elements x and y in a groupoid is denoted by x · y or simply xy. Sometimes the basic operation is denoted by + and is called addition. The groupoid is then said to be additive.
