Abstract

Quite generally, computer programs can be improved through the increase of their capabilities, of their convenience of use and of the speed of computation. To follow the purpose of this monograph, we shall describe only those modifications and extensions of the basic programs, which involve more than programming technicalities. Some of the developments include the introduction of concepts common to often-encountered spin systems, such as breakdown of matrices; several of the basic programs were altered in this way. Other developments make certain programs more usable; an example is the handling of “missing” energy levels (see Section D.1.2), which was a problem in the first version of the program NMREN.
