Abstract
The determination of errors of optimum parameters p (f) obtained by the application of the least-squares method to a large number of experimental values m, involves a two-step procedure. First, the errors of m must be properly characterized. Then, since the errors of m carry over to those of p (the errors “propagate” from m to p ), a general law of propagation of errors must be applied to the characteristics of the errors of m so that those of the errors of p can be derived.
