Detailed examination of the human thyroid primordium and gland in prenatal life (3 mm CRL to 520 mm CHL, 5 weeks to full term) makes it possible to divide into the following three differentiative stages: 1. The primordial development (early differentiation stage, 3 to 13 mm CRL, 5 to 7 weeks), 2. the preparatory development (preparatory differentiation stage, 14 mm CRL to 90 mm CHL, 8 to 12 weeks) and 3. the final development (follicle stage, 95 to 520 mm CHL, 13 weeks to full term).
