Maintenance of Pregnancy under the Aspects of Uterus-Inhibiting Substances

Abstract

To understand the pharmacodynamic and therapeutic relaxation of the uterus during pregnancy, it is expedient to first describe the physiological properties of the myometrium and the dependence of its function on control processes of the autonomic nervous system and hormones. Particular emphasis must be laid on the fact that the uterus

  1. 1)

    exhibits an autonomy that is rare for a muscle tissue,

  2. 2)

    depends on control mechanisms of the central nervous system, and

  3. 3)

    is subject to Immorally activating and inhibiting factors.
