Zusammenfassung
In diesem Abschnitt knüpfen wir an die scharfsinnigen, einfallsreichen und gründlichen Untersuchungen an, die SALMON in „Statistical Explanation“ angestellthat. Eine der Hauptthesen, welche SALMON ZU begründen versucht, lautet, daß eine statistische Erklärung kein Argument sei sondern daß dieser Begriff in ganz anderer Weise expliziert werden müsse. Obwohl einiges dafür spricht, SALMONS Bezeichnung ‘statistische Erklärung’ beizubehalten, scheint es mir, daß das Explikandum diesmal von demjenigen, wovon HEMPEL und andere ausgingen, so stark abweicht, daß man dafür einen anderen Namen prägen sollte. Ich werde im folgenden von statistischen Analysen sprechen. Auf die Frage, was man alles „statistische Erklärung“ nennen könnte, und ob es überhaupt zweckmäßig sei, diesen Ausdruck noch zu verwenden, komme ich erst am Ende dieses Abschnittes zurück.
