Zusammenfassung
Ein Ausdruck wie “formale Behandlung“, ja sogar schon eine Wendung wie “systematische Behandlung“, wird heute oft als Bezeichnung für semantische Analysen eines Textes in einer formalen Sprache verwendet. Ich teile bis zu einem gewissen Grade die Auffassung von J.C.C. McKinsey und P. Suppes, daß diese Einstellung ,,für den Mangel an wesentlichen Fortschritten in der Wissenschaftstheorie verantwortlich ist1. Diese Selbstbeschränkung auf Kunstsprachen zwingt nämlich die Philosophen, sich mit fiktiven Beispielen zu begnügen, die in einer Sprache erster Stufe formalisierbar sind, während man Beispiele aus der wirklichen Wissenschaft den Historikern überläßt.
