Abstract
The first talks which Heisenberg gave on physical problems were to Arnold Sommerfeld’s Seminar at the University of Munich. Probably the earliest seminar he ever presented occurred towards the end of his first semester in winter 1920/21; in it, he discussed a paper of Hendrik Kramers on the Stark effect of hydrogen (Z. Phys. 3, 199, 1920). In summer 1922 he appeared before the experts assembled at the Innsbruck Conference on Hydro- and Aerodynamics, where he spoke on preliminary results obtained for his doctoral thesis on the problem of the stability of laminar flow (item No. 1 in the Table of Contents).
