Zusammenfassung

Es war im Campus einer amerikanischen Universität an der Westküste gegen Ende der 60er Jahre. Nach einem Kongreß hatte ich mich mit Herrn Dr. Konrad Springer getroffen, um mit ihm über Einzelheiten eines Projektes zu beraten, das uns seit einigen Jahren immer wieder und intensiv beschäftigte und über das wir kurz vorher mit Jerry Olson aus Oak Ridge diskutiert hatten: eine Buchserie mit Monographien über ökologische Themen. Wir saßen beim Frühstück und beobachteten durch die große Glasfront der Cafeteria das Treiben auf den Wegen der Grünanlagen der Universität. „Jogging“ war dem Mitteleuropäer zur damaligen Zeit noch wenig geläufig — und wir amüsierten uns über die Läufer, die, schweißüberströmt in langen Reihen ihr morgendliches Training absolvierten.
