Abstract
This paper is not intended to survey transplantation in rats — not even theoretically; rather, it limits itself to some of the basic aspects, be they theoretical or practical. First of all, it may be pointed out that there is no particular field that merits the designation “rat transplantation immunology” since the basic immunobiological laws appear to apply to all mammals, from rat or mouse to man. It is this premise which mainly justifies the vivid interest of surgeons in experimental transplantation models.
