Abstract
The techniques of dealing with angular momentum developed in the previous chapter are straightforward in principle, but they can become quite complicated when applied to real physical problems. The effort involved in practical applications can be reduced considerably by using graphical methods. Graphical methods of treating angular momenta were first introduced by Jucys et al. [1962], who used them to simplify products of 3-j symbols. This technique has been further developed by a number of authors [Brink and Satchler 1968; Sandars 1971, El Baz and Castel 1972]. In this book we shall use graphical methods extensively, and we shall follow mainly the works of Brink and Satchler and of Sandars.
