Abstract

We shall now apply the perturbation theory, developed in the previous chapter, to determine the first-order wave function and the first-order energy of a closed-shell atom. This will provide a simple application of the formalism and serve as an introduction to the graphical procedure which will be extensively used in the following chapters.
