Abstract
Ipomoea batatas Poir. (Convolvulus batatas L., Batatas edulis Choisy) known as sweet potato or American potato is a member of the family Convolvulaceae, and is a perennial root-tuber plant. Due to thickening of the radical nodes, it develops bulky tubers rich in starch, amydaceus, vitamins and sugary substances. The tuber is nutritive, and is an important raw material for distilleries, while its stems and foliage are used as forage (Fersini 1970).
