Abstract

The environmental management of a mining operation is an integral part of that operation. Environmental management can be planned and organized so that it contributes to the achievement of company goals including productivity, product quality and profitability. Environmental performance is also a prime and often highly visible indicator of corporate citizenship. In short, the standard of environmental management can play an important role in determining the overall success of an operation as seen by its shareholders, employees, local community and the public at large.
