Zusammenfassung
Unter Photosynthese versteht man die Umwandlung von Lichtenergie in chemische Energie (in Form energiereicher organischer Moleküle) an speziellen pigmenthaltigen Biomembranen (Thylakoiden). Bei den grünen Pflanzen ist dieser Prozeß mit einer Oxidation von H20 zu 02 verbunden. Im photochemischen Abschnitt des komplexen Photosynthesegeschehens werden Lichtquanten durch Chlorophyll a und andere Photosynthesepigmente absorbiert und in Reaktionszentren gesammelt. Dort findet dann der entscheidende Energiewandlungsprozeß statt, der die Energie elektronisch angeregter Molekülzustände in chemische Energie (Redoxenergie) transformiert. Es schließt sich ein komplizierter Elektronentransport über eine Reihe von Redoxenzymen an, bei dem schließlich NADP+ zu NADPH reduziert wird. An diesen membrangebundenen Elektronentransport ist der Aufbau eines Protonengradienten quer zur Membran gekoppelt, der über eine H+-getriebene ATP-Synthase an der Thylakoidmembran ATP als zweites energiereiches Photosyntheseprodukt liefert. Mit Hilfe von NADPH und ATP können nun im biochemischen Abschnitt der Photosynthese viele energiebedürftige metabolische Reaktionen durchgeführt werden, insbesondere die Fixierung von C02 und dessen Umwandlung in Kohlenhydrate.
