The Neutral Current and the Determination of sin2ϑw
In this chapter we consider a number of possible methods of obtaining the weak angle ϑw that determines the composition of the neutral current in the standard model (22.78). For this purpose, one could, in principle, use any reaction to which the neutral current contributes. Here we shall confine ourselves to a discussion of neutrino–electron and neutrino–nucleon scattering and electron–positron annihilation. A review that also considers other reactions is given, for example, by Kim (1981).
