Abstract

In this chapter we wish to discuss the predictions that can be derived about the hadronic final states of high energy reactions from the concepts of quarks and gluons. Let us take, for example, the electron–positron annihilation into hadrons discussed in Sect. 18.1. In the quark picture (Fig. 18.2), the virtual photon produces a quark–antiquark pair. In the laboratory, however, we only observe hadrons. How are the hadrons created from the quarks?
