Abstract

Glucagon is a polypeptide hormone well known for its effects on glucose and lipid metabolism. Once thought to be primarily a hyperglycemic factor, glucagon is now known to alter physiologic function in many tissues. This chapter reviews the use of pharmacologic quantities of glucagon in the treatment of diseases which affect critically ill patients (Table 1).
