In den Drüsenazini wird ein plasmaisotoner Primärspeichel produziert, welcher neben den Speichelproteinen (insbesondere der Amylase) auch Ionen (Kalium, Natrium, Chlor) und Wasser enthält (Seifert et al. 1984; Rettinger 1992; Malamud U. Tabak 1993).
