Zusammenfassung

Klagen über subjektiv empfundene Einbußen kognitiver Funktionen gehören zu den häufigen in der neuropsychiatrischen Praxis vorgetragenen Beschwerden. In einer Feldstudie waren nur etwa 60% dieser Symptome tatsächlich auf eine Demenz zurückzuführen (Kurz et al. 1991). Erster Schritt der ärztlichen Diagnose ist daher die diagnostische Abgrenzung der Demenz gegenüber anderen psychischen Störungen. Nach Diagnose des Syndroms „Demenz“ ist das Ziel der differentialdiagnostischen Abklärung die Identifikation der Krankheitsursache, um gegebenenfalls eine kausale Behandlung einzuleiten. Die klinische Demenzdiagnostik muß sich eines umfassenden klinischen, psychometrischen und apparativen Instrumentariums bedienen.
