Abstract
Aging involves many different phenomena, among them changes in the structure and function of the central nervous system (CNS). Structural changes can be observed on the molecular and cellular levels as well as in the gross morphological appearance of the brain. Changes in CNS function can also be studied on different assessment levels, ranging from biochemical studies of nerve cell metabolism through neurophysiological measurements of electrocortical activity and psychometric assessments of behavior.
