Abstract

Despite the extensive clinical experience accumulated over the past decade and the large amount of data available in the current literature, the optimal regimen of combined hyperthermia and radiotherapy is not yet known (Meyer et al. 1989; Overgaard 1989; Sugahara and Saito 1989). Because of easier heat delivery and temperature monitoring, superficial hyperthermia has been more popular than interstitial or deep hyperthermia and has allowed a number of treatment combinations with radiotherapy, depending on a series of factors that may vary in different clinical situations.
