Abstract

The cell surface is a complex reflection of the events in its nucleus and cytoplasm. At the same time, the activities of the nucleus and the cytoplasm depend on chemical information transmitted from the cell surface by signal transduction. This interaction results in exploitable differences between the surface properties of a cancer cell and its normal and benign counterparts. Tumour targetting using radiolabeled peptides, monoclonal antibodies and fragments makes use of all of these properties.
