Abstract
A major goal in regeneration research is to understand the reasons for the absence of spontaneous axonal regeneration in the CNS. Detailed knowledge of the molecular, biochemical, and cell-biological components of the wound-healing process provides a basis for the identification of growth-promoting and growth-inhibiting factors and for the development of new therapeutic approaches.
