Zusammenfassung

Die Krankheiten des Herz-Kreislauf-Systems stellen unverändert die Todesursache Nummer eins dar. 1994 starben in Deutschland — nach Angaben des statistischen Bundesamtes — von 100 000 Einwohnern (Männern bzw. Frauen) 449 Männer und 601 Frauen an einer Erkankung des Kreislaufsystems, darunter 123 Männer und 91 Frauen an den Folgen eines akuten Myokardinfarktes. Da Behandlungsmaßnahmen den individuellen Krankheitsverlauf bei kardiovaskulären Erkrankungen entscheidend beeinflussen können, ist es wichtig, die Individuen zu identifizieren, die an einer KHK erkrankt sind, um durch effektive Therapiemaßnahmen (Eliminierung der Risikofaktoren, medikamentöse Therapie, ggf. Revaskularisation) Krankheitsverlauf und Prognose zu verbessern.
