Zusammenfassung
Die Einführung von Clozapin zur Therapie schizophrener Psychosen (Angst et al. 1971; Stille u. Hippius 1971) brachte wegen der praktisch fehlenden extrapyramidalen Nebenwirkungen des Präparates einen wesentlichen Fortschritt für die medikamentöse Behandlung dieser psychischen Störung. Auch nachdem die Gefahr des Auftretens einer Leukopenie unter Clozapintherapie bekannt geworden war (Amsler et al. 1977; Idänpään-Heikkilä et al. 1977), konnte Clozapin unter Beachtung entsprechender Vorsichtsmaßnahmen weiter eingesetzt werden, und es wurde möglich, die Lebensqualität hauptsächlich für jene Kranken zu verbessern, die eine Langzeitbehandlung benötigten (Meltzer et al. 1990; Meltzer 1992).
