Special Indications and Complications with the Implantation of the Thrust Plate Prosthesis

  • Chapter
The Thrust Plate Hip Prosthesis

Abstract

Hip joint replacement has a particularly important place in orthopaedic implant surgery. The time span since the very first hip joint prostheses were implanted, the clinical results obtained up to now, and the biomechanical knowledge of the hip joint and femur far exceed the corresponding experience with any other artificial joint replacement. In the hip joint, with its clear anatomical and functional characteristics, endoprosthetic replacement is more favorable than in elbow or ankle joints due to the anatomy and the articular mechanics, which themselves place very complex demands on an implant.
