Abstract
At the end of the 1970s Huggler and Jacob developed a hip endoprosthesis with a new concept for femoral fixation, aiming at a physiological transfer of load from the femoral component to the proximal femur [2]. The first generation of this thrust plate prosthesis (TPP) was implanted in the Canton Hospital, Chur, Switzerland, from 1978, and in the Balgrist Orthopaedic University Clinic, Zurich, Switzerland, from 1980 onwards.
