Abstract
Titanium and its alloys are primarily used in engineering where light weight, high strength and corrosion resistance are required. Their special applicability for cementless implants is due to the superior biocompatibility of these metals. Local and systemic reactions to titanium or titanium alloys used in medicine are basically impossible. This can be shown by the use of physical and chemical principles.
