Abstract
In the past 15 or 20 years a number of books have been published dealing with the description of group theory applications in solid-state physics. Both books treating the foundations of the space group theory and containing the irreducible representations of these groups [1.1–5] and books giving the reader an evaluation of the current state of the various possible applications of this theory [1.6–14] have appeared. It would therefore seem to be appropriate to give some justification for offering to the reader yet another text on this subject. As far as we know the present book is the first attempt to systematically arrange all the group theoretical aspects of the site symmetry approach to crystalline solids and to consider different applications of this approach.
