Adhesion Molecule Induction and Expression in Neutrophil-Induced Myocardial Injury

  • Conference paper

Abstract

Reperfusion of a previously ischemic myocardium has become a standard therapeutic approach to acute myocardial infarction. The efficacy of this approach in reducing mortality and morbidity has been well established. However, there is also substantial evidence that the reperfusion process is accompanied by cardiac injury. In theory, attenuating this reperfusion-dependent injury would further improve the results of thrombolytic or angioplastic interventions of acute myocardial infarction.
