Abstract

Semimagnetic semiconductors (diluted magnetic semiconductors) represent ternary or quaternary semiconductor compounds with part of the atoms in their crystal lattice replaced by atoms of transition or rare earth elements possessing an unfilled d- or f-shell and, consequently, a non-zero magnetic moment. Examples of such materials are solid solutions of A 1-x II Mnx BVI · (Hg1-x Mnx Te, Cd1-x Mnx Te), A 1-x II Fex BVI (Hg1-x Fex Se), and A 1-x IV Mnx BVI (Pb1-x Mnx Te).
