Zusammenfassung

In der Bundesrepublik Deutschland sterben mehr als 50% der Menschen an Herzund Kreislauferkrankungen. Nach Angaben der WHO führte die Bundesrepublik Deutschland (588/100 000) zusammen mit Großbritannien (578/100000) 1985 die Mortalitätstatistik vor Italien, USA, Frankreich, Spanien, Kanada und Japan (247/100 000) an. Jährlich sterben allein in Deutschland etwa 80 000 Menschen akut am Herzinfarkt, weitere 80 000 an anderen Komplikationen der koronaren Herzkrankheit (KHK). Mit dieser Anzahl an Todesfällen durch die koronare Herzkrankheit (KHK) nahm die Bundesrepublik Deutschland unter den Ländern der OECD einen mittleren Rang ein (Tabelle 1).
