Abstract
Deserts are defined as areas where the evaporation of water greatly exceeds the rainfall. As a result, the land is dry for most of the year and the life forms that inhabit these areas typically possess particular adaptations for survival in an arid habitat. This book is about the adaptations made by a particular group of organisms — carnivorous birds — to arid environments.
