Abstract
Carcinoma of the female urethra is uncommon, with approximately 1500 cases reported in the literature (Grigsby 1992). It represents 0.02% of all cancers found in women and less than 0.1% of all gynecologic malignancies (Johnson and O’Connell 1983; Weghaupt et al. 1984). The peak incidence occurs in the fifth and sixth decades, although cases have been reported in children as young as 4 years and women in their ninth decade (Hopkins and Grabstald 1986). This cancer appears to be more common in white women (85%) than black women (12%) (Hopkins and Grabstald 1986).
