Abstract

Spatial and temporal complexity is one of the most interesting subjects of modern science. Just as understanding the composition of each individual building block does not automatically imply understanding the architecture of the building in general, the behavior of complex nonlinear systems consists of much more than the simple arithmetic sum of the component influences. It appears that the time of crushing complex systems into discrete “stones” and scattering these “stones” has ended, and we are turning at last to the creative work of collecting these elementary building blocks.
